ABOUT US

Songkeum (សង្ឃឹម ‘sangkhum’) means “hope” in Khmer! Founded in 2015, Overseas Community Involvement Project (OCIP) Songkeum is one of the longest-running OCIPs in LKCMedicine. We are a team of 12 medical students that visit Cambodia every year to organise programmes devoted to serving underprivileged Cambodian communities and improving the overall health and wellbeing of villagers living in rural regions of Cambodia. We conduct health screening and health education lessons for both adults and children, along with additional ventures into vocational training and house visits.

To achieve this, we have partnered with the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. While the organisation is religious, OCIP Songkeum and its activities remain secular and non-religious; complementing their missions by contributing in the realm of healthcare and education. Our team is multi-religious with members of different faiths and we gladly welcome Doctors of all faiths/beliefs!

OUR MISSION

  • To empower the underprivileged in the Cambodian community to build better lives for themselves through health education and instilling a greater sense of responsibility for their health.

  • To equip members of our Cambodian partner with vocational skills to progress from idea conception to actualisation.

OUR VISION

  • Village communities with an increase in knowledge of essential health concepts and a greater capacity to better their state of health.

  • Members of our partner organisation are equipped with the relevant skill sets to better serve the underprivileged Cambodian villagers.
